Governor DeWine selects UC graduate as Hamilton County judge

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has selected Elizabeth Simmons Callan, a former assistant prosecutor in Ross County, to serve as a judge on the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas. Callan, a Republican, will fill the midterm vacancy left by Judge Robert Winkler, who moved to Ohio's 1st District Court of Appeals.

Carmen, who pleaded no contest in December to gross abuse of a corpse, was sentenced Wednesday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court to six months in jail and two years of probation. Judge Robert Winkler ordered her to complete drug treatment.

Judge Robert C. Winkler has served the citizens of Hamilton County in many capacities for over 25 years. He began his career as a Hamilton County assistant prosecuting attorney, followed by the private practice of law and for over 12 years has served the citizens of Hamilton County as judge. During his time as judge, Judge Winkler has presided over more than 28,000 civil and criminal cases.
